PICU Hellesdon Hospital

This new building on an existing hospital site provides 22 patients ensuite bedrooms for psychiatric intensive care with low secure unit and includes vaulted day spaces with clerestory natural light. Swing zones to internal corridors allow flexibility of occupation whilst activity spaces, gym, large internal courtyards, administration wing and dedicated de-escalation suite provide the required accommodation.

The building is designed to be a low carbon use building and includes ground source heat pump to under floor heating system, photovoltaic panel array to roof and high levels of natural light and ventilation which aid the therapeutic environment. All bedrooms have a view over the landscaped open garden areas.
