KLH Office Exension Stage 2

The brief was to create a single design studio space for a design team of 30, to encourage collaborative and interactive working environment. The extension forms the second phase of the original application for the site. The design allowed for construction in two phases. Prior to construction, planning approval was sought for increasing the height of phase 2 to insert a mezzanine design studio.

The form of the extension continues the theme of a group of structures with an agro/industrial aesthetic. A steel frame and timber frame infill with insulation farmed from recycled plastic bottles was the chosen method of construction and the choice of external timber cladding was a wider staff agreement, with members of the team actively involved or witnessing the charring of the Shou-Sugi-Ban timber cladding.
