KLH Architects Office Extension

A simple barn form is set parallel to the existing offices allowing for a duplicate succession of similar barns as the need arises. The barn form is visually separated, but functionally connected to the original studios with a flat roofed link element, expressed on the principal elevation in Cor-Ten steel.

Complimenting this conceptual approach, the cladding of the new extension continues an industrial theme with grey standing-seam metal cladding to walls and roof covering. The southerly facing gable end is expressed in a lively, bright red coloured system of timber battens which also serve as brise-soleil by shading the south facing glazed doors. This motif is echoed on the rear gable where it enlivens a social barbecue area enjoyed by the staff.

Internally the studio form is simply expressed with a vaulted ceiling following the roof profile and with exposed and elegantly functional stainless steel tie rods providing an immediate understanding of the structural arrangement. The white finishes form a bright, light and airy space well suited to the creative endeavour within.
