SJCC RIBA Suffolk Design Awards 2025
We’re proud to share that KLH has submitted four projects for the SJCC RIBA Suffolk Design and Craftsmanship Awards 2025. These awards celebrate architectural excellence, innovation, and sustainability, and we are honoured to have our work recognised among some of the finest projects in the region. Each of our submissions reflects our dedication to thoughtful design, high-quality craftsmanship, and a commitment to creating buildings that are not only functional but also enhance their surroundings and the lives of those who use them.
Marquis, Suffolk
A multi-phase transformation of a Grade II Listed hotel and restaurant, expanding its offering with luxury accommodations, event spaces, and luxury spa facilities. The project was developed over ten years, with a focus on heritage preservation and quality. The final design incorporates a subterranean spa, enhanced hospitality spaces, and extensive use of locally sourced materials.
Fairacre, East Bergholt
A sensitive remodelling of a Georgian home designed by Raymond Erith. The project removed unsympathetic extensions, added a wraparound extension, and introduced a modern open-plan living space while maintaining the building’s traditional character. The home’s heating and insulation were upgraded for improved energy efficiency.
Dovetail Cottage, Layham
A single-storey, Passivhaus-inspired home designed for ultra-low energy use. Built within an existing garden, the project prioritises sustainability, energy generation, and storage. High-performance insulation, triple glazing, and an exhaust air heat pump contribute to its low carbon footprint, aligning it to our RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge goals.
The Pheasantry, Wattisham
Restoration of a historic timber-framed longhouse, preserving its heritage while introducing contemporary design. The project included repairs to the timber frame, improved insulation, and a modern extension designed to complement the original structure. The result balances traditional craftsmanship with 21st century functionality.
