Plans for ‘landmark’ £25 million Ipswich care village approved
KLH Architects have helped to obtain planning approval for a new £25 million Care Village to be constructed on the outskirts of Ipswich. The proposed 147 dwelling Care Village at Westerfield House, Ipswich will be the first Extra Care facility of its kind in the region. It will enhance the existing care home situated at Westerfield House and will serve Ipswich and the surrounding area by enhancing the care provision in the town.
KLH Architects have worked closely with Westerfield House Care Home and Ipswich Borough Council to prepare a scheme that is sensitive to the existing Grade II Listed Westerfield House and its context but will provide a modern and vibrant facility for an engaging Extra Care community. It has also been developed in collaboration with local healthcare providers and Ipswich Hospital.
The proposals include extensive landscaping enhancements to ground the Care Village in a country park setting and will provide residents with a community hub that includes communal dining facilities, cinema, multi-use rooms, multi-faith room, a library, dedicated clinical spaces to provide inclusive health care and a specialist hydrotherapy pool with associated gym and wellness suite. A café and large foyer will be at the heart of this facility and will enhance the engagement of Westerfield House Care Village and the local community who will be able to utilise the centre’s offering in addition to its residents and visitors.
