Exciting plans to transform Ipswich’s Lloyds Avenue
KLH are proud to support Ipswich Borough Council in putting forward exciting regeneration plans to transform a major gateway into the town centre.
The KLH team have been working closely with the local authority to draw up plans which would see Lloyds Avenue pedestrianised and reimagined as a bright, green and accessible open space.
The transformation would open up exciting opportunities for outdoor dining for local hospitality businesses while creating an attractive new entranceway which honours the street’s architectural heritage.
Stuart Edgar, our Associate Director, said: “The new-look Lloyds Avenue will be a modern, accessible and inviting space that honours the rich history of the area while bringing it into the 21st century.
“It will also act as an extension of the Greener Ipswich scheme, providing more tree-lined outdoor spaces that will not only bring colour and biodiversity to the town centre, but provide lucrative outdoor space for hospitality businesses in Lloyds Avenue.
“We are pleased to have seen a high level of support for the plans among the public and look forward to supporting the council further as the planning process progresses.”
Heritage plans for the street include introducing cast iron bollards to pay homage to Ipswich’s rich nautical traditions, while the more than 100-year-old Lloyds arches will be repaired and repainted.
A digital wall will also be installed below the arches, showcasing works by local artists to further enhance the street’s beautification.
All reclaimed land will be resurfaced using high quality local materials, with planters throughout the street adding to the existing Greener Ipswich scheme, linking Christchurch Park to the Waterfront via a tree-lined trail with living walls.
Ipswich Borough Council’s Planning Committee has until March 11 to consider the plans and finalise its decision.
